1978 – First scientific paper suggesting the need to develop and implement a food and nutrition policy in Portugal – “Food and Nutrition Policy in Portugal” (Francisco Gonçalves Ferreira);

1980 – Establishment of the National Nutrition Council (CNA);

1984 – Establishment of the National Food and Nutrition Council (CNAN);
