Mediterranean Diet

The Mediterranean Diet is a cultural, historic, social, territorial and environmental heritage that has been passed down from generation to generation over centuries. It is embedded in the lifestyle of the Mediterranean population.

Although Portugal is not bathed by the Mediterranean Sea, there are Mediterranean elements to its climate, geography, economy and lifestyle. The Mediterranean Diet – UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage – together with regular physical activity, are probably the best known way to improve healthy life expectancy, without compromising the pleasure of eating and the well-being that comes from it.
