COSI Portugal 2008

Childhood obesity is one of the most serious public health problems in Europe and the rest of the World. This disease has climbed steadily, adding 400,000 children per year to the existing 45 million children with excess weight. WHO/Europe (World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe) has launched the Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative (COSI) Portugal after the approval of the European Charter on Counteracting Obesity in 2006 and the appeal of its Member States to develop and instate a childhood obesity surveillance system.
